Virtual Organizing: The New Normal

Working with clients virtually during this Pandemic has been eye opening and so productive for many people stuck at home! Ranging anywhere from basic day to day projects just as sorting mail or organizing bills, to the bigger projects like redoing a room, virtual organizing is a great tool for any type of project that needs a partner to complete. Even laundry and dishes get done while we work throughout your home or home office. It can be stressful to undertake any level of organizing project alone, and virtual organizing gives you someone to be accountable to throughout the day. Virtual organizing is also great for longer term projects that would benefit from regular follow up sessions, which can be customized to fit your schedule.

I have experienced system transformations working virtually that even I have not previously discovered when I organize with clients in person. It is amazing how my NOT being there actually gives you the opportunity to get hands on with your belongings and collaborate by talking through what works and doesn't work in your space. With Face Time, Google Duo and Zoom, I am right there walking through your home with you and making suggestions. I also really believe that my clients have been able to come up with the best, long term solutions for organizing and storing and that they can maintain successfully.

One of my long term clients undertook organizing her pantry and I was right there in her hand, within easy reach for questions and problem solving. These before and after photos really show how she was able to go through every item in her pantry and come up with a system that works for her and happens to be clean and beautiful as well!

When tackling a smaller scale project like a pantry, start with taking all items out of the area and sort like with like.

After sorting your items by type, color, size, or whichever system works best for you, make sure to throw out anything you are no longer using.

Putting everything back is my favorite part! Each item gets its own place, allowing you to see everything you need exactly where you want it.

Utilizing tools you already own, such as the rack and hooks pictured below, is the perfect way to transform your space without having to buy a thing. Hanging kitchen tools on the wall makes everything visible and easily accessible, which was this client’s system throughout this organization project.

I continue to be impressed with the systems my clients have been coming up with during this time of virtual organizing and can’t wait to help you with your next project!
